Plus Hayley Creative

“If our culture does not provide representations or provide images which are understood as misinterpretations or inadequate representations, then there will be a response.” (Robinson, H. 2001) Feminism-Art-Theory: An Anthology 1968-2000. Oxford: Blackwell Publishers. P. 540, 569.

Background

Hi, my name is Hayley - a fat queer woman who strongly supports inclusion and representation - and I am the photographer behind Plus Hayley Creative. I chose Photography as an A Level and haven’t looked back since!

In 2013 I got the opportunity to go to Kenya volunteering and managed to take some great images. Whilst trying to find my photographic style, i’ve had my photography published in Performance VW, done behind the scenes for a music video and been a guest in a podcast!

I have a BA (hons) in Video and Film Production and an MA in Film and Photography. I love having a background in both Photography and Film. I loved focusing on production and did short films based on cannibals in an apocalypse, 80’s Halloween party, Bulimia awareness, Depression awareness and my favourite; was a documentary based of how rock and metal music affects your mental health.

For my MA, I focused on photography. I found something I loved to capture… People! In 2018 I fell in love with the idea of unedited skin that is natural and realistic. I found that people look their best when they are themselves and not trying to pretend to be someone else. My dream is to own my own studio, but for now I am focusing on event photography and outdoor portraits.

My work

My digital work has always been quite personal, whether directly to me, the subject, or the spectators. Theories such as The Female Gaze are always a big focus behind my work, allowing it to have deeper meaning rather than just being a physical piece of art.

Through my work, I always show what needs to be shown in order to get my emotions and messages across. I hide identities, as they are not what is important in my work; the important part of my work is the expression and emotion through the shapes of the bodies and the details in the skin. This allows my work to be seen as a piece of art to be appreciated, rather than a body that is not accepted by society and therefore judged. Allowing you to make your own opinions about the subjects, rather than following what we have been taught through stereotypes.

My job is to capture your inner beauty as well as your outer beauty. We are all beautiful, just like how all flowers are beautiful - not one is ever really the same. My goal is to create a friendly and confident client base as well as a supportive network of other creatives. I aim to be inclusive to all genders, ages, sexualities, ethnicities and abilities.
